Capturing newborn images makes my heart happy. They hands down are the most tedious, and time consuming, sessions due to numerous feedings, changings, wardrobe changes, plus spit up, fits, and gas, BUT they are also probably the most rewarding as I get to capture them within their first few days or weeks in this big, new world. Add in a Navy man in uniform holding his tiny baby boy, and you’ve got pure magic…like this day!
I love that I get to capture this little miracle in it’s tiniest, most wrinkled, NEW state. Each day after birth they grow… they’re never as small as they are in those first precious few days; so capturing just how tiny, how wrinkled…just how amazingly miraculous the human form starts out, is part of this career that I treasure!
This session was super special as the newest little addition came to join a wonderful family I’ve come to know as precious friends. Justin is the older brother to one of my closest “sisters”, and I’ve grown to love their family as an extension of my own. He joined the Navy shortly after high-school, and a few years later married the love of his life, the beautiful inside and out, Kalyn. It’s been amazing seeing God use them in each other’s lives.
Watching Justin with his niece and nephews it was always clear to see God made him to be a daddy, and a wonderful husband and daddy he makes. I observed too that Kalyn was also meant to be a mom…watching her with her babies was like a dance. She’s the epitome of a nurturing, loving mother with her eyes always fixed on her little blessings.
Together they’ve created a beautiful little family which started with a brown haired, hazel eyed spit fire named Josslyn Claire, and recently added sweet Mr. Lucas Bryar. Josslyn ran around the studio the day of their session saying “deer” and wanting to pay with the antlers they brought for props…she’s a daddy’s girl for sure folks! I got to shoot her in momma’s belly during a a family session 2 years ago…just before she decided to burst into this world 5 weeks early, but perfect as could be!
Justin is off on deployment in another country for 6 months, but got to come home before deploying so they scheduled their session while he was in. Funny how timing works as the day of their session Josslyn turned two! We captured a few images of the sweet Birthday Princess donning a fitting crown and tutu while baby brother had his tummy filled before his close-ups…but like a true country girl I think she preferred the camo and antlers 😉
Little Lucas really was a great baby, only really wimpering when he became hungry. The funniest moment came however when shooting images with daddy following his naked poses. He decided to “love” on daddy really well by tinkling on him, and following that up with a little more “mess” just as we all started to grab for a diaper. Ahhh the very glamorous life of parents, and those of us who brave shooting babies 😉
A little clean-up of baby brother, one more outfit change for big sister, and we finished their session with some precious images of momma and daddy loving on each other…which turned out to be some of my favorite images of the day. I LOVE seeing mom and dad LOVE on each other because it’s a brilliant model for the babies of how love is supposed to be, and it makes me smile that they’ll have those images of their parents being so smitten with each other long after they’re gone. 🙂
Thank you Justin and Kalyn for letting me capture your amazing family, and a giant thank you to you BOTH for the sacrifices you make serving our country. I am blessed just to know you!
